Retention readout
860 existing customers were retained after excluding new customers.
140 starting customers were lost in the period.
Expansion offsets contraction and churn in this period.
How to use this tool
Formula used
NRR = (Starting revenue + Expansion - Contraction - Churned revenue) / Starting revenue x 100%.
Use when
Use after a monthly or quarterly cohort closes to separate customer loss from revenue expansion.
Use when acquisition looks healthy but revenue quality or retention may be weakening.
Be careful when
Do not mix new-customer revenue into NRR; NRR describes existing-account revenue movement.
Do not compare periods unless the same starting base and revenue definitions are used.
Worked example
Starting with $100,000, adding $18,000 expansion, losing $6,000 contraction and $4,000 churned revenue gives 108% NRR.
